Tropical Shipping

Directs, plans and coordinates the corporate procurement and purchasing activities in support of the current business plan. Includes responsibility for marine and land based purchasing functions. Ensures purchasing activities support quality, cost, inventory and service level standards. Continually evaluates and adjust purchasing and materials management strategies and plans to meet changing economic and competitive conditions. Responsible for the development, implementation and management of the corporate procurement and inventory management information system.


Develops and executes procurement and materials management strategies, plans, policies, procedures, programs and systems, to ensure achievement of short and long term company objectives and maximize support of business operations.

Ensures that materials and services are procured in an efficient, timely and cost effective manner and without disruption to operations, by implementing consistent process disciplines which leverage all available technology and talent.

Directs the purchasing cycle of materials, capital equipment, food, and related services on a local, national , and international level.

Administers cost reduction methods via increased supplier base, development of source directives, and centralized Company purchasing.

Negotiates discounts, terms, and conditions with vendors to maximize savings. Approves suppliers, contracts and agreements within authority level. Ensures all contractual agreements are reviewed and approved in compliance with our Legal Policy.

Develops plans and procedures to carry out purchasing, inventory and materials management functions in accordance with Company policies and uniform commercial practices.

Develops trends and forecasts that can be used for operational purchasing decisions.

Ensures inventory management practices are consistent with all accounting standards. Tailors inventory purchasing to support inventory needs to achieve maximum financials and operational performance.

Implements methods of operation that best ensure compliance with procedures and maximize control over expenditure authorities, order fulfillment, receiving, delivery and payment.

Trains, develops, and evaluates staff. Utilizes human resources in a positive manner to ensure stability and continuity while ensuring maximum productivity and accuracy.

Performs all duties with the highest standard of business ethics and professional practices.

Handles special projects as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.




Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or in a related field


Five years of procurement related experience, including a minimum of three years in a managerial capacity, preferably in a maritime-related operation.


Valid Local Driver's License and Valid Passport


5% travel to facilitate purchases.


Office Environment - Manual dexterity to perform repetitive motion tasks on computer. Ability to bend or stoop to retrieve lower shelf files. Ability to reach overhead to retrieve upper shelf files. ability to sit 1/3 - 2/3 of day. Ability to travel in various modes of transportation (e.g. automobile, airplane, train etc.) Occasionally exposed to outside elements during the course of traveling.
