What does a Rates Specialist do?

The Rates Specialist is responsible for ensuring the operations excellence in providing customer service by documenting and communicating cargo and rate information accurately and efficiently. This position requires you to have one to two years customer service or billing experience, preferably in transportation, an associate degree is preferred. Candidates must possess strong computer and problem-solving abilities, a deep customer affinity, continuous improvement acumen and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Handles customer transactions including Documentation, Rating, Pre-Auditing, Transport Bookings and Problem Resolution.
  • Develop an understanding of customer business models and processes to evaluate customer needs and recommend solutions including educating customers regarding documentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and develop customer and vendor relationships through open and interactive communication.
  • Receive military cargo manifest, match up to individual TCN numbers, upload LOB reports, request changes in military BRT system as required.
  • Process paperwork and scan documents, accurate and efficient data entry.
  • Run and audit various reports for customers and internal use.
  • Frequently attend on-site classes to improve knowledge and performance levels.
  • Build positive, unified relationships with internal employees and departments.
  • Provide support throughout the department.
  • Optimally perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.
