Company Description: Northern Air Cargo (NAC), headquartered in Anchorage, is Alaska largest all-cargo airline and the longest continuously operating cargo airline in North America. NAC has provided airfreight services to Alaska’s rural communities for more than 60 years and is rapidly expanding to include air cargo flight operations throughout the western hemisphere and Hawaii. NAC maintains a fleet of Boeing 737 and 767 freighters and operates pilot bases in Anchorage, Honolulu, Miami and Laredo. NAC’s fleet of B737s provide schedule service between Anchorage and 13 Alaska communities and charter service throughout North America (both on-demand and ACMI). While the B767 fleet operates out of Miami in support of sister company StratAir and out of Honolulu in support of sister company Aloha Air Cargo.
Northern Air Cargo
The Assistant Chief Pilot will assist in ensuring all B737 flight operations in assigned location are conducted in a safe, efficient, economical manner and in accordance with Federal Air Regulations by performing the following duties personally, through Check Airmen or in collaboration with the Manager of Pilot Training and other Flight Operations personnel.
- Provide day-to-day oversight for B737 pilots in assigned location in compliance with all applicable laws, FAA regulations, joint collective bargaining agreement (JCBA) and Company policies. Act as a resource in resolving any issues or concerns.
- Make recommendations on hiring, pay, promotions, transfers, discipline and furloughs for B737 crewmembers in assigned location consistent with JCBA and applicable Company policies.
- Ensure Alaska B737 crew members comply with qualification and proficiency requirements. Participate on the Flight Standards Board.
- Accept assignment of Operational Control in the absence of the Vice President of Flight Operations or Chief Pilot.
- Ensure new and existing B737 flight operations policies and procedures are followed. Recommend any changes to aircraft operations that will enhance safety and efficiency.
- Coordinate with the Manager of Flight Training on training and safety issues as needed for B737 flight crews.
- Maintain productive relationships with flight crew members, Vice President of Flight Operations, Chief Pilot and all other key Company stakeholders.
- Maintain productive liaison relationships with outside agencies such as the FAA, NTSB, or other airlines, agencies, relevant external stakeholders, etc.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and good follow-through on commitments.
- Provide input on aircraft, airports, and navigational aids to be utilized by NAC in assigned location.
- Manage company projects for Flight Operations as directed by the Vice President of Flight Operations or Chief Pilot.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of FAA part 121 regulations.
- Must have Airline Transport Certificate with a B737 type rating.
- Minimum of 3000 total flight hours with 1500 hours as Pilot in Command.
- No record of FAA or company violations.
- Demonstrate good leadership, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to successfully meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Keep current and qualified in B737 aircraft.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Supervisory experience in union environment preferred.
- Must be fluent in aviation orientated English language (FAR 61.153 (b)).
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations, collective bargaining agreements, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with crewmembers, management, internal stakeholders and regulators.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must have current and valid Airline Transport Pilot certificate with appropriate type ratings.
- Must meet all requirements of FAR 119.65, 119.67
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Computer skills required.
STRESS ON THE JOB:
- This position has a high-level of responsibility for a safety-sensitive function. Ability to manage periods of high-stress is required.
