This position is responsible for overseeing the risk management functions of the NSE operating group, which include: investigating, resolving, and tracking company claims (both insured and uninsured); managing and reporting data used for insurance underwriting; working with operations personnel to identify and resolve key risks where appropriate; and working with the General Counsel to coordinate the resolution of claims and open disputes. This position will also implement and develop compliance policies with respect to Department of Transportation regulations.
Manage, investigate, resolve, and track company claims and report company claims (both insured and uninsured).
Oversee the NSE risk management and insurance program, including gathering and analyzing loss and exposure data, facilitating insurance renewals, and maintaining relationships with brokers, underwriters, and claims adjusters in partnership with parent company Saltchuk.
Implement and develop compliance policies with respect to Department of Transportation regulations.
Single point of contact for Saltchuk risk management with regard to renewals and all of NSE’s risk management activities.
Manage claims reporting data integrity in database system.
Provide support to Legal Department for NSE’s claims. Review of legal documents for insurance requirements and to assess risk, and provide corresponding analysis to the General Counsel.
Work with corporate controller on insurance premium accruals, claim receivable reconciliations between accounting system and claims database, insurance premium audits, and monthly inter-company transfers between Saltchuk and NSE regarding insurance premiums and claim payments.
Manage environmental claims in coordination with the Environmental department.
Occasional travel to Alaska may be required.
The position requires a professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to be resourceful and self-directed, extreme attention to detail, and leadership qualities including the ability to be a problem solver while working with multiple parties in a team environment. Education level: Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred. Minimum of 5+ years of professional work experience in legal, risk management, insurance claims, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience in and mastery of commercial insurance programs required.
