Document Development and Control Specialist Level I will provide support to the Publication Services group for Northern Aviation Services, LLC. (NAS) as well as NAS Operating Companies (OpCos).


Northern Aviation Services is a wholly owned subsidiary within the Saltchuk family of companies, providing a range of aviation related support services primarily in North America with revenues of over $220 million.  Through our operating brands, Northern Air Cargo, Aloha Air Cargo, and StratAir we collectively transport over 250 million pounds of freight annually via our scheduled cargo service in Alaska and Hawaii and on-demand charters throughout North and South America.


  • Editing text and manipulating images.
  • Proof reading documents.
  • Communicating with subject matter experts to produce current publications observing department standards.
  • Complete work within an established timeframe with limited corrected errors.
  • Submitting revisions of company manuals to the FAA for acceptance and approval.
  • Issuing revisions to all manual holders in paper or electronic form as required.
  • Tracking documentation receipt, and versioning acknowledgement.
  • Maintaining the publications database.
  • Updating company manuals required on each aircraft and in the Publication Services libraries.
  • Maintaining, tracking and entry of revisions to vendor manuals.
  • Conducting audits of various information systems e.g., operations specifications, company libraries, vendor manuals.
  • Complete tasks for special projects with moderate assistance.
  • Make suggestions to improve department systems and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Two years college coursework in English, Journalism, or related field; closely related work experience may substitute for education.
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
    • Direct work experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience editing and proofing large and complex documents.
  • Experience working independently with limited supervision and producing quality work product.


  • Critical thinking skills.
  • High degree of organization.
  • Strict attention to detail.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proof reading.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Competency in desktop and publishing applications including the following:

o   Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook).

o   Adobe Acrobat Professional.

o   Adobe FrameMaker is preferred.

  • Experience in the aviation industry is preferred but not required.


  • This position has a high level of interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to write grammatically correct business correspondence, procedures, and routine reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond verbally and in writing to candidates, employees, management, peers, and outside agencies.


  • Manual dexterity is required for heavy amount of computer input.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
  • Will need to see, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
