What does a Cargo Support Specialist do?

The Cargo Specialist is responsible for ensuring the operations off terminal, coordinating operations within the terminal while providing excellent customer service. Associate Degree is preferred with one to two years customer service experience, preferably in transportation. DOT 49CFR HazMat Carrier certification preferred. The scheduled work hours of this position potentially will be Tuesday – Friday, (Tues/Thurs 10:00 am – 7:30pm, Wed/Fri 11:00 am -9:30pm).

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Manages customer transactions including Documentation, Rating, Pre-Auditing, Transport Bookings and Problem Resolution.
  • Develop an understanding of customer business models and processes to evaluate customer needs and recommend solutions including educating customers regarding documentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and develop customer and vendor relationships through open and interactive communication.
  • Receive military cargo manifest, match up to individual TCN numbers, upload LOB reports, request changes in military BRT system as necessary.
  • Process paperwork and scan documents, accurate and efficient data entry.
  • Run and audit various reports for customers and internal use.
  • Frequently attend on-site educational classes to improve knowledge and performance levels.
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships with internal employees and departments.
  • Provide support throughout the department.
  • Effectively perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Associates degree preferred.
  • DOT 49CFR HazMat Carrier Requirements (Water) Preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to process large amounts of data entry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must be a team player and provide support to the department.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings as required.
  • Computer literate, with the ability to utilize standard software applications and be proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and E-service center & E-commerce web-based applications.
